Wine of Argentina

Viticulture in Argentina is native to Spain. In 1557, during the colonization of the Americas, a certain Juan Cedrón brought the first grape vines to Santiago del Estero, and grape growing and wine production began in the surrounding area and gradually spread to other regions from the country. As in many other American countries, it was initially tempted by local varieties that are not of the same stock as the European varieties. These local grape varieties give the wine a very hard and acid fox taste, which is generally not very appreciated. But, soon, the Franciscan monks brought the best grape varieties from Europe.

Wine of Mendoza

The province of Mendoza is the most important wine region of Argentina. It alone accounts for 80% of production in the whole country. The town of Mendoza is the capital of the province. The vineyard now occupies a vast geographical area, rests on very different terroirs subjected to various mesoclimates.
